Dr. Mary Joy Kaimuri

Lecturer
Dr. MaryJoy Kaimuri is the Dean School of Nursing and a lecturer in the nursing department. She holds a BSc Nursing, MSc Health Systems Management, a PhD in Public Health and is a DAAD/IDC 2023/24 fellow. As dean, am charged with the administrative and academic management responsibilities of the School of Nursing. She manages the faculty members, technical and support staff and students. This role requires building of linkages with the community and the training health facilities/ hospitals that provide placement and research opportunities. Previously, she was the founder chairman of the nursing department tasked with curriculum development, accreditation of the programs and their implementation. Since 2023, she has been a micro- research coach in collaboration with Dalhousie University Canada. Dr. Mary joy has been recognized by Health System Management Association (HeSMA) for her role in student preceptorship and mentorship. In addition, she was recognized by the same association for her achievements in educational and capacity building programs for improvement of health systems. Dr. MaryJoy is passionate about women and child health as women are key pillars of the community. Her current ongoing research is in Non-Communicable Diseases, clinical mentorship, maternal health and reproductive health.

1. Guest speaker during the International Midwives and Nurses Week Celebrations held on 11th May 2022 at Maili Tatu Stadium, Igembe north Sub County. The theme was Nurses: A voice to lead, invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health

5. National Nurses association of Kenya annual scientific conference 2009 on the theme poverty a challenge to achieving health. A research paper titled ‘effects of amenity wards on the equity of health care’ was presented by Dr. MaryJoy Kaimuri
Collaborations / Projects
1. Seeding lab (ongoing): University will benefit from a container full of laboratory equipment through this grant
2. Rising tide Switzerland USD$20,000: Early detection and timely breast cancer diagnosis in selected counties in Kenya: phase 1 of this project has been funded
3. Esther grants of 8,000 Euros: This was a startup grant applied for in conjunction with University College of Dublin (UCD), School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems and School of Nursing at the Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST). The aim of the grant was to initiate collaboration between the two universities and to support the BSc Nursing programme at Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST).
4. Awarded a Research Grant of KShs. 341,000 by Meru University of Science and Technology during the 2015/2016 academic year.
