Dr. Tirus Mutwiri Gichuru

Dr Tirus Mutwiri Gichuru, PhD, teaches Kiswahili (Language, Literature, teaching and Research Methods) in the School of Education, Departments of Arts. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Kiswahili Linguistics from Kenyatta University and a Master of Arts degree in Kiswahili from the same University. He has a Bachelor of Education (Bed Arts) from Moi University. He also holds an advanced diploma In Theology from Timothy Training Institute. He is also an alumnus of Ndagene High School and Marimba Primary School. Initially, Dr. Tirus worked with the Teachers Service Commission teaching in several secondary schools. He was also a Part-time Lecturer at Mount Kenya University (Meru Campus formerly Nkubu Campus) in the Associate Faculty. His focus in research and writings includes language and Literature, language policies and education, Language and community development, lexicology and Lexicography, and Eco-linguistics. He also engages in programs that engage and empower the community

  1. June 26th – 28th, 2024: Attended the 3rd Meru University of Science and Technology International Conference International held at the Main Campus. I presented a paper ‘Eco-Literacy and Climate Action in Primary School Curriculum in Kenya’.
  2. June 26 – 28, 2024: Attended Pre-conference Seminar during the 3rd MUST International Conference International held at the Main Campus. Malombe, P.V. and I presented a paper on ‘Factors Undermining Effective Implementation of Competence-Based Education in Junior Secondary Schools in Isiolo Central’.
  3. February 18th – 19th, 2024: Attended A Seminar organized for the School of Education on Reviewing and Aligning Education Curricula to Competence-Based Learning’ held at Meru University
  4. March 1st-2rd. 2023: CHAKITA International Seminar held at Kabianga University, Kericho. The title of the paper that I presented: Dhima ya Kiswahili katika kuunda, kupambanua, na kutekeleza Sera za Uchumi wa Kijani Nchini Kenya.
  5. August 15th, 2023: Attended Meru University of Science and Technology Academic Staff seminar held in Theatre 1(one). Theme: ‘Transforming Higher Education: Quality Teaching and Learning in the Technological Era. 
  6. March 11th – 13th, 2023: Attended a Competence Curriculum Training for MERU UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY by the Staff of Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development. Held in Main Campus.
  7. November 25th -26th, 2021: CHAKITA International Seminar held at Kenya School of Government, Baringo. Kabarnet. The title of the seminar paper I presented: Nafasi ya Kiswahili katika Kufanikisha Utekelezaji wa Ajenda ya Uzalishaji Chakula cha kutosha Nchini Kenya. 
  8. Novemba 7th-8th, 2019: CHAKAMA Seminar held at Maasai Mara University. The title of the paper I presented: Mchango wa Historia katika Kupambanua Maana za Leksia za Kiswahili.
  9. September 19th, 2019: Research Seminar held at the Department of Kiswahili, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kenyatta University. The title of the paper I presented: Mbinu na Athari za Mabadiliko ya Maana za Leksia za Kiswahili.
