BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Janet Achieng’ Onyango is an adjunct English Lecturer at Meru University. She graduated on Friday 22nd July, 2022 with PhD in Linguistics from Kenyatta University, and her Thesis was on the Interface between Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics. Besides, she is also interested in other research areas such as education, communication, gender issues and impact of digital space in education system. She also holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics and Bachelor degree in English and Literature from the University of Nairobi.
Apparently, Dr. Janet has worked in different institutions. First, she joined Meru University at the inception of Faculty of Education Arts in June, 2020 as a part time lecturer teaching English language. Prior to this, Dr. Janet had taught in the same capacity at Kenyatta University and KCA University. This enabled her gain experience in both she taught digital and physically teaching. Her passion in teaching enabled her impart knowledge to the students and also counselled them where need be. Hence, this has seen her students enroll for masters. The engagement with the University has enabled her do research, attend seminars and conferences. Besides, she got opportunities to present and publish papers. Her contribution to scholarly work has seen her write a module in Business language for KCA University. In addition, she was also involved in curriculum development for the degree programme at KCA University that was approved by CUEA.
Dr. Janet’s passion for teaching begun when she was employed as a teacher by the Teachers Service Commission from the year 2013 to 2020 where she served in different capacities. Among them were head of English and Guidance and Counselling Departments. she was also involved in the senior management of the school as the teachers’ representative besides being a class teacher, which helped her gain managerial skills.
